The hallways were always empty. Empty as she'd ever seen them today. No one was in sight. Not a teacher or janitor. No kids skipping class or angry parents heading for the office. It was deserted.
She kept walking with her books clung tightly to her chest. Her bookbag hanging off her shoulder. The girl's clothes a bit nicer than normal. She had on a lace trimmed tank top, with a short sleave, pink peasant blouse. A skirt that showed off her legs and her hair was curled. It was a change from her usual sweatpants and t-shirt paired with geeky glasses and her hair up.
Margot hadn't taken the first few weeks of school. No one knew why, and she wasn't about to let them. It wasn't that anyone would have really noticed anyway. No one liked her here.

Edward stood at the end of one of the sidewalks, leaning against the hard, brick wall of the school. He had his eyes closd, and his head was turned up to the ceiling, and he seemed stressed.
Of course he was stressed! Not only would he be stealing Bella's soul away from her by turning her into a vampire, he would be starting a war with the La Push werewolves. Those disgusting, ugly dogs that hated him although they did not know him. They believed all vampires were horrid, evil creatures that did not deserve to walk the earth. But in reality they were not any better than those vampires. In essense, they were exactly the same.
Edward picked up somebody's thoughts, and immediately opened up his eyes. He looked over, seeing a girl walking down the hallway.

She was staring at the ground the entire time she walked, and then she let her eyes wander up for a moment. Her heart stopped when she saw Edward standing there. She knew who he was but she never talked to him. She never wanted to. He terrified her and she hated even looking at him. It made her hair stand up and her stomach flip. Like he was ghost or something. Something was wrong about him.
In her mind she thought of a song, singing it in her head to calm down and she walked past him with her head down. It was obvious she didn't like him or was comfortable around him.

He could smell the fear emitting from every pore in her body, he didn't even have to read her thoughts for that. He terrified her, although he could not think of a reason why, and she apparently didn't even know. But he did terrify her, and that was the point.
He didn't like being feared. Actually, he wasn't used to being feared. He was used to hearing the thoughts of the girls around him. He was used to hearing them sigh and fawn over him, he was used to hearing "He's so hot."
He wasn't used to hearing that he terrified the girl. Maybe he terrified a werewolf, maybe he even terrified other vampires, but it had been a while since he'd terrified a human. Well, a human who didn't know what he was, that is.
He decided to be friendly, in hopes of changing her opinion. Not that it mattered, of course. It was two weeks until he and Bella graduated... but he felt he had to do this. "Good day." He said.

Margot just kept walking when he spoke, hoping to god he was talking to someone else. Maybe that Bella girl he was permanantly attached to. If she was there Margot might feel better. Then he didn't have a chance to talk to her. She could get away.
The girl kept her head low and her thoughts on the song, drowning out his voice and everything around her. Drowning out the sounds of her feet on the tile.
It was wasn't just Edward though that scared her. It was all of the Cullens. They all made her feel like something was terribly wrong. She didn't like the feeling of when she was around them. Especially Alice and Edward.

He frowned, finding it very rude that she didn't even aknowledge his presence. But, in a way she did, because as soon as he spoke to her, a song filled her head. He didn't know what song it was, nor did he particularly care. It was just some random song put there to ignore him.
"Are you new? I've never seen you around before." It was a lie, but whatever. He didn't care.

The song stopped as well as her feet as she looked at him out of the corner of her eye. What did she say to him now? She couldn't think of a single thing but, why are you talking to me? or what do you want?
"No I'm not new." She said nervously. Her voice cracking.
She didn't look back at him. She just looked straight ahead and then closed her eyes.

"Oh." He stepped forward awkwardly, a little curious as to why she was really afraid of him. Maybe she was one of those people who knew what he was without really knowing. Like Gabrielle, although that little Katrina victim knew everything now, thanks to her stupid, werewolf boyfriend. "Well, we've never spoken. I'm Edward, by the way."
He wasn't being himself. Normally, he didn't care. Normally, he would be in class. But they were doing some sort of blood typing in Bio II, and he couldn't exactly be in there for that. He just skipped. "And you are...?" But he knew who she was.

She couldn't tell him who she was. That would be suicide. What if he was dangerous? A killer or stalker. An early weirdo in highschool just waiting to get out in the world. What name could she use though? She couldn't think onf anything.
What am I supposed to tell him? Hm...Mary?
"It's Mary." She said still looking away from him, her grip on her books tighter, so that her fingers were white.

"Mary? Really now?" He grinned, and he obviously didn't believe her. He knew her name, all he had to do was read her mind. She thought he was a serial killer, or a rapist, or something along those lines. In a way, he really was a killer. But, for moral's sake, he only drank the blood of animals. But did that really change anything. "It's nice to met you... Mary."

"I...uh, have to go to class..." She lied and glanced at him nervously. He seemed too happy to not be up to something. He surely didn't like her. He was always all over that Bella girl, so that left that he was up to no good.
'Yeah, a class far,far away.' She thought.
