Gym. The word alone could send kids into a panic. Nobody, unless they were really into sports, liked gym. Especially if they had no athletic ability what so ever. Gabrielle, she knew, had none.
Unfortunately, when she'd moved here, her transcripts had long been lost. So now she was being forced to take a few of the required classes over again, and was grateful that some of what was required back home was not required here, so she could take those later, but only if she wanted to.
Gym was required, as she found out. And now she was stuck with it, and really wished the school would have believed her that she had already taken it. They had not, of course, or if they did, they made her take it anyway. She didn't like school officials.
She sat in the locker room, dressed out, waiting for the coach to send them into the gym. She hated wearing this type of clothes: a T-shirt and a pair of gym shorts. Not only was it really cold here, but white made her skin look yellow, and she didn't like it. She'd tried getting away with wearing a black T-shirt, but the coach had decided she didn't like it and made her get new stuff.
"I hate sports," she said, sketching something on a piece of white paper. "I really hate sports. Why can't they have decent art classes here?"

Rachel let out a long sigh as she walked down the hall with her trusty schedule and map in hand. It was her first day at Forks High School and so far she had been slightly late to every class because she was trying to find her way around the school. It wasn't so bad though because the school was pretty small.
Looking up from the map she saw the Girl's Locker Room. She opened the door and looked for the gym teacher. Once Rachel found the teacher, they had a quick chat and she was giving her gym clothes. Rachel was kind of hoping that she would have been excused from today's activities being that she was new but that wasn't the case.
Rachel went down a aisle of lockers trying to find an unused one. She heard a girl say something from behind her and she turned around with a small grin. "That's that best thing I've heard all day. I couldn't agree with you any better. Art is much better than having to run around and kick a ball." She said softly while getting dressed in her PE uniform quickly, seeing how she found a locker.

Gabrielle looked up to see a student she'd never seen before. So now I'm not the new kid anymore. She stood up and stuffed her sketchpad into her locker. "You're a bit late. New, I take it." She reached her hand out in greeting to shake the new kid's hand. "I'm Gabrielle, the resident new kid until you got here. Make yourself at home and ignore the fact that everybody will be staring at you until at least the next year." She flashed a white grin.

Rachel listened to the girl as she took a seat on a bench to tie her shoes. "Yeah, I'm new. It's nice to meet you Gabrielle. I'm Rachel." Rachel introduced herself while reaching over to shake her outstretched hand. "Sorry about taken over your position as the new kid... I tend to do that to a lot of people." She said while giving a shrug.
She got up from the bench and began to pull her hair up in a pony tail so it would be out of her face. "As for the staring... I guess I'm kind of use to that too." She told her with a small smile. "So... Um, how do you like this school so far?" Rachel asked her being that she could kind of relate to her being that she was kind of new to. Rachel didn't have an opinion on the school yet being that she had only been there half of the day and she hadn't meet that many people yet.

"Uh... the teachers are okay. Nothing like my native New Orleans, but I can't exactly go back there." She laughed. "I don't like the students at all, if that's what you meant. They kind of avoid me like a plague, and that's fine by me. I don't like shallow kids, and this school's full of them. But you probably wont have the same problems I had coming here... most likely, that is."
She thought back to her first few days at Forks High and how everyone watched her going, "Yeah, that's the Katrina girl, right?"
But none of that really bothered her anymore. "They kind of flock to the pretty girls, so you'll fit right in. Just stay clear of this girl Lauren and her friend Jessica."

Rachel let out a small laugh while listen to Gabrielle's every word about the school. "Avoid Lauren and Jessica, that's easy to remember..." She said slowly while glancing at the other students in the looker room. Great, another school where the students broke down into groups. Rachel let out a sigh and rolled her eyes. "Great... I hate being labeled." Turning her head she heard the coach telling them to go to the main gym. "Fun." Rachel muttered sarcastically. While beginning to follow the other girls to the gym.
Rachel looked over at Gabrielle. "I don't join 'clicks' or whatever they are called. They drive me crazy. I just rather hang out with people because I like their personality, not just because they're a jock, popular or anything like that..." She explained with a small frown.
"So New Orleans, huh? I'm been there a few times... I loved to try the different Gumbo." Rachel sensed that perhaps it wasn't the best idea to bring that up. "Sorry, I tend to ramble sometimes without meaning to. So you like to draw?" Rachel asked remembering the sketch book from earlier.

"Yeah, cliques are really stupid. They were kind of bad back at my old school, and sadly enough I was in one. The drama and art kids, mostly, but that's because I had no choice. The cliques were so bad, you were labeled simply if you spoke to someone. I tried to break the mold, but that didn't work out too well."
She started walking into the gym with Rachel, pulling a ring off her finger and placing it on two silver chains. She snapped the first chain around her neck and tied the other one. "My mother makes the best gumbo, so said everyone on our street. But maybe that's because she mixed a whole lot of her Italian-ness into it. My parents are from Italy and moved to the States when they were in college. And yes, I draw."

Rachel nodded her head. "Eh, I think every school has cliques no matter what... At least all the schools I've been to has had them. I mean not all cliques are bad..." She gave a shrug as she continued to walk.
Rachel turned her head and watched as Gabrielle took off a ring from her hand and placed it on a chain. Rachel got a good look at it and her eyes widen. "Oh, wow. That's beautiful!" She told her as she looked at it with envy. It almost looked like a family heirloom. After a few seconds her attention went back to what Gabrielle said before. "Italian? That's awesome... I'm sure her gumbo taste wonderful. The thought of it is actually making me kind of hungry. I wished it was lunch." She said with a laugh.
Rachel's eyes scanned the gym. There was tennis courts set up along the half long of the basket ball court and people began to play. "I wished I could draw... The best I can do is stick figures." She said with a grin. "I'm into photog-" Rachel stop mid-sentence seeing how she had just gotten hit in the head with a tennis ball. Rachel quickly reached up with her hand and placed it right above her forehead, where she was hit. She rubbed the spot trying to easy the pain. "I really hate PE." She muttered to herself.

Gabrielle snorted, trying to hide her laughter. "I've got hickeys all over me from being hit in tihs class." She blinked, remembering this was Forks not New Orleans. The slang was different, something she had learned very well. "Er... I have bumps all over me."
She grabbed sat down on the sidelines as a few people took their turns and headed onto the court. She was glad that, by the end of the hour, the coach's would've forgotten that not everyone had played and she wouldn't have to. "Trust me, PE was worse back home. Try running the mile in 100 degree weather with humidity that made you all sweaty and sticky before you made it a foot past the door. Horrible. Where are you from, by the way?"

Rachel finally pulled her hand away. "Hickeys? Oh, bumps. I see... Well, I guess it's something I'm going to have to get use to. I use to dance for two hours a day in place of my PE credit at my old school, but they wouldn't let me do that here." She said with another laugh as she took a seat next to Gabrielle on the side line. She also hoped that they would get away without playing.
"I hate humidity. It makes my hair stick out in every direction possible." She said with a frown at the thought. Of course there was some humidity in Forks, but it wasn't that bad. "Where I'm from? Are you sure you want to know? The list could go on for ever... Originally, I'm from New York, but my family moves around a lot because of my father's job." She explained with a roll of her eyes. "This is probably the 15th state I've lived in so far... Before we moved here, I lived in L.A." Rachel said really hoping that she would be able to finish school here.

"Oh, that's nifty." She nodded, fiddling with her shoestrings. "It's got to be pretty cool getting to see all those different places. I mean sure it's got to be kind of irritating, but at least you can say you've lived in more places than most people get to see in a lifetime. Some people are born and raised in a place and never leave it." She watched a few of the students hit the ball back and forth. "I've always wondered why people enjoy these sports. Some, I can understand. Like fencing. I get that... but hitting a ball around a court? Doesn't take much for that, I don't think." She ignored a glare she recieved from the coach.

Well, to tell you the truth... I hate it." Rachel said well drawing her knees up so she could lay her head on them. "I mean, I was ok with it when I was younger, but as I got older it became harder to having to keep making new friends. It felt like every time I was just getting use to a place, we would pack up and leave again." She explained while noticing the coach was sending them. "Hopefully, this is the last move I'm making though, because I'm turning 18 next year and I plan to live on my own. It's nice to see all these places, but I rather just stay in one spot for awhile."
She turned her head and looked at the clock on the wall. "How much more time do we have in this class? Eh, the only sport I really like is dance and soccer. Every other sport I suck at." She said with a chuckle.

Gabrielle looked at the clock. "Ten minutes. Yay! Means we'll be going to put back on our normal clothes in five. Looks like we're not playing today. Fun fun!" She looked back at Rachel, grinning. "And I'm sure that does get... irritating. I guess it just depends on the individual, though. I'd love it, but I'm not too social. I really only ever talk to my mom and my boyfriend, everyone else I usually let be. Except you, of course. But maybe that's because we're both new, and new kids should stick together, right?" She laughed.

Rachel let out a laugh and nodded her head. "Right, the new kids do need to stick together." She said as she got up and stretched. She was glad that the class was almost over. "Sorry if I got a little annoying... It's just that I haven't really talked to anyone all day and you're the first person who been nice to me. Anyway, thanks for the advice and everything." She said with a smile.
Rachel was glad that she was able to make a friend. "So, none of the boys here are date worthy then?" She asked with a laugh. "Does your boyfriend go here?" She asked out of curiosity as she began to follow others back to the girls locker room. There was still quite a lot Rachel didn't know about Forks and other places in the area.

"Not at Forks High, are you kidding me? They're all buffoons." She laughed, fiddling with the ring around her neck. "My boyfriend lives in La Push and goes to the Quiluete Tribal School. Try going to the reservation, the guys are more attractive. Here everyone's all pasty, although I don't have much to say on that one. My skin's kind of... light as it is. Damnit, and I'm supposed to be Italian!" She laughed and entered the locker room, pulling off her shirt as soon as they were safely inside and out of eyesight.
"There really isn't much to do in Forks," she said, pulling on her regular shirt. "Try La Push or Port Angeles. Things are great there. Or if you're into the forest and nature and stuff, try the Hoh Rainforest. It's really beautiful."

Rachel let out a laugh. "That's ok... I'm not exactly what you would call tan either." She said with a smile as she pulled off her shirt. "So, if I wanted to find some attractive guys I go to La Push... I think I can remember that. I'll probably wait for awhile before I go there though." She said with a chuckle. "I'm not really ready to date again quite yet." She pulled her normal shirt on.
"But, I think I will make a trip to Hoh Rainforest..." She told her while thinking. "It sounds gorgeous. I'm sure it's an awesome place to take some pictures at. Maybe I'll go there this weekend..."

"Yes, the Hoh is quite beautiful. I've been there a few times myself, and it's a magnificent place to take photos. I'm not into photography as much as I used to be anymore, but if I was that's the first place I'd go. And Port Angeles is really pretty, too. The Pier is magnificent and gives you a great view of the ocean. And... well, First Beach over on La Push is great, too, but it takes some planning and effort to get there. Once you do it's great, though, and I highly recommend it."

"Alright. Thanks for the recommendations. I just want to get out and see what Washington has to offer." She took her hair out if the pony tail and pushed the strands behind her ears. She let out a small yawn as she grabbed her papers that she was using earlier to help her get around.
Hearing the bell ring she looked toward Gabrielle. "Well, I'm off to advance chemistry. Maybe I'll see you in another class or during lunch. So, I guess I'll talk to you later."
